The second album from The Crooked Fiddle Band lives up to the high standard set by the first album. I'm glad I supported the Pozible campaign to get this album out. It's great to have a band like this in Sydney.
Favorite track: Neptune's Fool.

I've loved this band since when Overgrown Tales came out, but here we are on totally another level: great melodies, furious runs and wonderful ballads, perfect singing. A very welcome evolution for this band.
Favorite track: The Vanishing Shapes of a Better World.

The new Crooked Fiddle band album is a more mature sound than previous work. Although these guys could rock it out with the best this time they are showing a great depth of melody via the folktronica genre.

Things crawl in ditches
While the bitter brewing witches
Plot potions of havoc and love
A miasma of midges
A gravedigger itches
A lantern, a fur trimmed glove
Down in the hollow
Where they buried Tom Swallow
A serpent writhes in wet earth
While the creak of the gallows
All moonlit and sallow
Gives verse to the scarecrow’s mad mirth
There’s a dirge being played
Mist-muffled and vague
Called the Deepwater Drownings by some
It’s a low mournful sound
For they never were found
Not a single one
Whippoorwill’s whisper the day
Beat the drum
The pipes will themselves play
The Deepwater Drownings
Fade away
Whippoorwill’s whisper the day
Beat the drum
The pipes will themselves play
The Deepwater Drownings
Fade away
Moving Pieces of the Sea is the second album by The Crooked Fiddle Band. Written on tour around the fjords of Norway and lakes of Finland, the album takes the band's reputation for intense, ecstatic energy and imbues it with a crystalline, cinematic expansiveness.
The album and opening track take their name from a letter by French ocean pioneer Jacques Cousteau to his son:
'Twilight was turning to sheer darkness, and our structures became eerie shadows. The fish were just moving pieces of the sea. I smiled because I knew...you would always seek after the vanishing shapes of a better world"
- Jaques Cousteau, 1963

Some of the best post-rock comes from our hometown and our latest fave is SEIMS' dense and expressive math-jazz-post-everything album. The Crooked Fiddle Band
So Hideous make the kind of heavy music we love - genuinely metal, explosively heart felt, but tempered with some epic string/orchestral elements along the way. The Crooked Fiddle Band
Emma is an old friend and a world-class songwriter. This deserves to be on huge festival stages, despite it's strengths of intimacy and introspectiveness. The Crooked Fiddle Band
